Don Quixote Rio Rojo Port is a fortified sweet wine made from a blend of three distinct grape varietals. Made in the Portuguese style, Rio Rojo is fermented to 3% alc. before Don Quixote brandy is added. The brandy interrupts fermentation while natural sugars are high.

We age Rio Rojo in French oak barrels and draw from the barrels using the Spanish Solaria method. Our barrel room exploits the benefits of being in the high mountain desert of Northern New Mexico where hot days draw the wine deep into the oak and cool nights push the wine back out. This constant cycling promotes rapid aging with maximum fruit flavor.

Rio Rojo is a sweet red port aged five years.
